A rank-based approach to the sequential selection and assignment problem

چکیده
In the classical sequential assignment problem, ‘‘machines’’ are to be allocated sequentially to ‘‘jobs’’ so as to maximize the expected total return, where the return from an allocation of job j to machine k is the product of the value xj of the job and the weight pk of the machine. The set of m machines and their weights are given ahead of time, but n jobs arrive in sequential order and their values are usually treated as independent, identically distributed random variables from a known univariate probability distribution with known parameter values. In the paper, we consider a rank-based version of the sequential selection and assignment problem that minimizes the sum of weighted ranks of jobs and machines. The so-called ‘‘secretary problem’’ is shown to be a special case of our sequential assignment problem (i.e., m = 1). Due to its distribution-free property, our rank-based assignment strategy can be successfully applied to various managerial decision problems such as machine scheduling, job interview, kidney allocations for transplant, and emergency evacuation plan of patients in a mass-casualty situation. 2005 Elsevier B.V. A hybrid DEA-based K-means and invasive weed optimization for facility location problem
In this paper, instead of the classical approach to the multi-criteria location selection problem, a new approach was presented based on selecting a portfolio of locations. First, the indices affecting the selection of maintenance stations were collected. The K-means model was used for clustering the maintenance stations. The optimal number of clusters was calculated through the Silhou...
متن کاملAn Interval Assignment Problem with Multiple Attributes: A DEA-Based Approach
One of the basic combinatorial optimization problems is the assignment problem that deals with assigning jobs to individuals. In traditional assignment problems, n jobs usually assign to n individuals such that the total cost is minimized or the total profit is maximized. However, in numerous real-life applications, various attributes could be considered in assignment problems while data (obj...
متن کاملModeling the problem of selecting and assigning orders to suppliers based on the Goal planning, QFD and ANP combined approach
Vendor performance plays a key role in price, quality, timely delivery and service in achieving the goals of the supply chain. Given this, today's supplier performance has become a critical element in the success or failure of a company. In this study, an idealized planning model with multi-criteria decision-making approach with network analysis tool based on the expansion of fuzzy quality func...
متن کاملA hybrid CS-SA intelligent approach to solve uncertain dynamic facility layout problems considering dependency of demands
This paper aims at proposing a quadratic assignment-based mathematical model to deal with the stochastic dynamic facility layout problem. In this problem, product demands are assumed to be dependent normally distributed random variables with known probability density function and covariance that change from period to period at random. To solve the proposed model, a novel hybrid intelligent algo...

In this paper, an analytical approach is used for assembly line rebalancing and worker assignment for single and mixed-model assembly lines based on a heuristic-simulation algorithm. This approach helps to managers to select a better marketing strategy when different combinations of demands are suitable.Furthermore, they can use it as a guideline to know which worker assignment is better for ea...
